Nigeria's "longest month"
and the opportunity it created

January is widely referred to in Nigeria as the longest month of the year. The reason is cultural and financial: people tend to deplete savings during the December festive season, leaving them financially constrained through most of January until the next payday arrives.

This pattern creates a recurring, predictable problem — and a unique opportunity for a savings and investment platform like i-invest to intervene with a product and a narrative that genuinely helped people.

"The campaign wasn't built on manufactured urgency. It was built on a real, culturally resonant financial pain — and a product that actually solved it."

Save through December.
Win in January.

Launched in September, the "December vs January" campaign encouraged users to save throughout the festive season — from September through December — and receive their accumulated funds in January. The mechanic was simple. The insight was sharp. Users who participated would have a financially comfortable January, having sidestepped the spending patterns that trap most Nigerians.

i-invest didn't just offer a savings product — it offered a way out of a cycle that millions of Nigerians know intimately.

Four goals, one
integrated strategy

01
Increase User Acquisition
Attract new users to the i-invest platform by leveraging a culturally relevant, emotionally resonant campaign hook.
02
Boost Savings Product Adoption
Encourage both existing and new users to actively engage with the savings product as a tool for January financial security.
03
Grow Revenue
Increase platform revenue through higher user engagement and savings activity during the campaign period.
04
Build Savings Culture
Foster a sustainable saving habit — not just a one-time campaign response — by educating Nigerians on the long-term benefits of disciplined saving.

Full-stack campaign management
across every touchpoint

This campaign demanded breadth and precision simultaneously. I wore multiple hats — managing internal communications, overseeing the project launch, running all digital ads personally, and collaborating across product, tech, content, and design teams to ensure total execution alignment.

I designed the landing page layout and worked with the team to create the copy, then collaborated with the dev team to get it live with correct Meta pixels and Google Tags capturing the right events. Every element of the digital campaign infrastructure was built to track what mattered — from landing page to first savings deposit.

Copy built to
convert, not just resonate

The messaging strategy leaned directly into the cultural tension:

"Make January your best month yet."
"Start January 2024 on a smooth financial note."
"Don't let detty December do you dirty in January."

Multi-channel deployment
for maximum reach

Social Media
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn were used to distribute campaign messages, engaging visuals, and user stories. Content was designed for each platform's native behavior — not repurposed across all channels uniformly.
Email
Personalized email campaigns targeted existing users, encouraging savings participation and referral. Segmentation ensured each user received messaging relevant to their product usage and engagement history.
Push Notifications
Timely in-app notifications reminded and encouraged users about the savings challenge at key decision points — particularly when users were most likely to take action.
Paid Ads
Strategic deployment of Google Ads and social media ads to reach broader audiences beyond the existing user base. Targeting was refined throughout the campaign based on performance data.
Content Marketing
Blog posts, articles, and FAQs on the i-invest website provided detailed information about the campaign and the platform's benefits — supporting acquisition by informing undecided prospects.

What this campaign
proved

01
Collaboration is a growth multiplier: Working across marketing, product, and dev teams was not optional — it was the campaign's central mechanism. Alignment at every layer produced outcomes no single team could have achieved alone.
02
Cultural insight beats broad insight: The campaign's power came from understanding a specific Nigerian financial reality — not a generic savings message. Specificity created relevance. Relevance created conversion.
03
Data-driven decision making throughout: Utilizing performance metrics, user acquisition data, and behavioral insights allowed continuous optimization — not a set-and-forget approach.
