Building a fanbase around
one of Africa's biggest artists

This engagement was unlike any other in my portfolio. I worked with Burna Boy, his management, and his PR team at BukiHQ to build and grow Burna Boy's dedicated fanbase — known as the "Outsiders." The mandate was clear: create a loyal, engaged, and expanding community of fans that would amplify Burna Boy's music, maintain his cultural presence between releases, and drive streaming and album performance during major launches.

While Burna Boy already commanded significant popularity, the goal was to deepen the connection between artist and audience — creating a community with its own identity, rituals, and sense of belonging.

"The 'Outsiders' weren't just fans. They were an architecture — a community built to amplify Burna Boy's music and keep his cultural presence alive between releases."

Three pillars of
community architecture

01
The Corliion Identity
I created a dedicated stan account — "Corliion" — to curate content and interact with fans at scale. This gave the Outsiders community a distinct voice and personality, separate from official channels, making fan interactions feel authentic rather than institutional.
02
Data-Driven Content
All social content was developed based on audience insights and performance data — not assumptions about what fans wanted. Each content decision was grounded in what was driving engagement, retention, and growth within the community.
03
Exclusive Fan Groups
Dedicated groups were established across social platforms to give die-hard fans a private space to connect, share, and engage with the Corliion persona. The exclusivity created belonging — and belonging created loyalty.

Content strategy across
every format and channel

Content was built to leverage Burna Boy's unique sound, cultural influence, and artistic vision — connecting with fans at an emotional level. A deliberate mix of formats maintained sustained engagement:

  • Behind-the-scenes glimpses and exclusive interview content
  • Fan art showcases celebrating the Outsiders community
  • Interactive challenges driving participation and social sharing
  • Conversations around chart records, streaming milestones, awards, appearances, and new music
  • Strategic collaborations with influencers, content creators, and media outlets

Building reach through
strategic collaboration

Beyond community management, the engagement extended to amplification partnerships that broadened the campaign's reach and impact:

  • Influencers and Content Creators: Leveraged their platforms and audiences to generate authentic buzz and engagement around Burna Boy's music and fan community — not paid shoutouts, but organic-feeling integrations.
  • Media Outlets and Press: Secured coverage and features to increase visibility and conversation around album releases and fan community initiatives.
  • Fan Groups and Online Communities: Engaged with existing fan communities to foster co-creation and expand the Outsiders' reach into adjacent audiences.
